#ReGeneration

Too much playoff hockey, too much sun. I have not been watching any movies lately. I still have not watched Lisa's pick, though I have every intention of doing so. Nice to see the active blogging from everyone else though. I caught up on all the posts last night while I waited to pick my friend up at the bus station. Good discussion. It's always fun to read everyone's thoughts even when I'm not participating. I just want to say, one more time, that Jeffrey's post about Shame is perfect. It is everything I would have said if I could have been bothered to say it.

I only have one movie to talk about and it's probably one that no one else will see. So, I'll make it brief. #ReGeneration is a documentary about the apathy of the younger generation. It is a bit all over the place in terms of a thesis but if I had to sum it up, I would say: Our current youth culture is vapid and consumeristic and we're kind of fucked, but wait, there's a glimmer of hope because it turns out we are smart and reflective when we want to be.

It is hard to argue with many of the problems or many of the conclusions that the film discusses. I just wish it had more focus. But, overall, it is a good documentary. One of my favorite bands, STS9, wrote the score, which powerfully drives the film along. The band also makes a prominent appearance in doc alongside several well-known intellectual figures. Oh, and did I mention that the film is narrated and produced by none other than the Gos?
