Movies I've seen since my last post:
- Daydream Nation (dir. Goldbach, 2010)
- Quiet City (dir. Katz, 2007)
- If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front (dir. Curry, 2011)
- Certified Copy (dir. Kiarostami, 2010)
- Bombay Beach (dir. Har'el, 2011)
- The Sleeping Beauty (dir. Breillat, 2011)
- Straw Dogs (dir. Lurie, 2011)
My Film Club resolution for 2012 is to write more often so as to avoid "dump" posts like this one.
Anyway, Daydream Nation was predictable and dumb.
Quiet City was great and secured Katz as a director who I find intensely interesting for how much he can do with so little.
I enjoyed If a Tree Falls more than I expected; it's very well done.
Certified Copy was good, but I'm not as mind-blowing as others think.
I've already mentioned Bombay Beach a bit. It will make a strong showing on my Top Ten list this year.
I didn't like The Sleeping Beauty as much as I wanted to like it.
Straw Dogs is not my kind of movie. James Woods is pretty awesome in it though. And someone does die in a bear trap so...
**What is the consensus for considering a film's year? Are the majority of people doing it by the year the film was shown in the US, when it was given a US release, etc? I need to know where to put films like Meek's Cutoff and Uncle Boonme.
