What's up hepcats?

Things have been slow on my end of Film Club. I haven't watched any movies in a while and looking back at my posts I realize that Antichrist has recently taken up a lot of the mental space that I devote to film. I am truly fascinated by both the film and my reaction to it.

Though I haven't been participating, I have been reading all your posts. A quick question for John and Jeffrey: Kubrick is anti-life? Can I get some elaboration? "Anti-life" just sounds so funny to me, like some sort of Tea Party buzz word that should be misspelled on a protest sign in Texas. I would say that I like most of Kubrick's films but definitely don't love them, which is probably why I have not seen any of them more than once. Make sense? Also, the 1997 Lolita is way better than his.

I plan to watch Certified Copy soon. However, I have The Pale King, the post-humous novel by one of my favorite writers, David Foster Wallace, arriving at my house tomorrow. So, I can't promise anything.

Jeffrey, for more on "hipsters" see John and Brandon's discussion of Lost in Translation from earlier this year. One of these days I'm going to mount an adequate defense of that film.

Lisa, glad you liked The Exploding Girl. I can't wait to see Zoe Kazan in Meek's Cutoff. I would really like to see her do well.

Hey Jason, when are you going to bring that sweet beard back to Film Club? You owe us a The New World post.
