I began to think about Film Club while reading an article in The Philosophers' Magazine this morning. The article was called Gender and the Philosophy Club. It turns out that men and women have "...dramatically different intuitions on some Gettier cases." If this is true (some of the experiments are still relatively new), then the fact that 80% of current philosophers are males is significantly harming to the discipline and to how a lot of philosophical problems are framed.
This reminded me of something I mentioned while discussing Before Sunrise and Before Sunset: I do not know any females who like these movies. I am sure there are some but I have not met them. (Side note: I've since lent these films to a friend; however, as far as I know, she has yet to watch them). What I am getting at is this: we need some female voices in Film Club - even if it is just as a Guest Blogger or something. We are a pretty homogeneous group here and I think it would be interesting and instructive to hear things from a female perspective.
Alright, I'm off to spend the rest of the day watching all the movies John so kindly lent to me.

I'm all for girls in film club, so long as they write about Westerns.
Seriously, I don't know any girls who care enough about film to waste time blogging about it. This may or may not be a problem.
So, I may have convinced my friend Lisa to start blogging. Not sure if she'll make a new blog or just make a few posts on mine. We used to be Netflix Friends before they did away with that feature. I would steal movies from her queue all the time.
As is the trend here, she is much smarter than I am. I'm looking forward to hearing her opinions.
