Short Films?

I wonder what Film Club has to say about short films. Do you watch many? Do you have any favorites? How do you hear about them?

I ask this because I spent last night revisiting some of my favorite short stories - The Rememberer by Aimee Bender, In the Cemetery Where Al Jolson Is Buried by Amy Hempl, The Depressed Person by David Foster Wallace are a few that are available online that continually move me. I am always amazed at how some short stories can accomplish so much with so little.

So, being a neophyte in the world of cinema, I need some suggestions for great short films. Every once in a while I come across some really cool ones on youtube or vimeo, but they are usually indie stuff that the creator put online. Are there any essentials? Any classics that I must see? Enlighten me.

I'll try to respond to this over the weekend. Maybe with a top ten list.

Your task? Go see True Grit. It's finally playing at Cinema Saver.

Awesome, I look forward to your list.

I'll be seeing both True Grit and The Fighter in the next few days now that they are playing there. Expect posts on them by next week.
