Gendarmerie et Gendarmettes

Louis De Funes. You may not have heard of this 60's and 70's era French actor.

One of the original slapstick men, Louis De Funes plays the second in command to the Gendarmerie of St. Tropez. In a series of movies based on the intrepid St. Tropez characters he proves himself an eminent comedic actor and the sublime idiot.

Set in gorgeous 1960s southern France, De Funes' passion for police-work is tested in each movie by the temptations of lovely ladies (it is a French movie after all) and his incessant need to move up a rank to be in command of his outpost.

The supporting cast of truant and raucous policemen underneath him provide good foils but his Commandant Zeber is truly his partner in crime. I thusly give you something I found on the youtubes to illustrate this phenomenally great series of movies. I sadly can not link to any other source as I had it burned for me (and mine are dubbed into Polish).
