For now, Netflix has become a barometer of the apparently voracious consumer appetite for streaming movies: a recent study by Sandvine, a broadband equipment maker, showed that Netflix, surprisingly, accounted for more than 20 percent of all Internet download traffic in North America in peak evening hours.20%? Wow, I would have expected porn, but Netflix? Of course, this is indicative of the trend that I see in most people my age and younger. Anecdotally, it just doesn't seem that anyone I know really buys DVDs anymore. I buy maybe one or two DVDs a year. And those DVDs are usually extended cuts for which I have a difficult time finding a good download or an indie film that I really like and want to support (for example, Ink).
I'm sure this has a lot to do with what Molly says in the video a few posts below: no one wants to wait.
For me that's not quite what it is. It's just cheaper and more convenient to use eztv.it or Hulu - though Hulu is quickly becoming a last resort these days. The only TV that I actually watch at it's scheduled time are a few HBO productions - currently Boardwalk Empire, Bored to Death, Treme and True Blood (I know, I know).
As a special Thanksgiving Day treat, here is a short by Jamin Winans called Uncle Jack:
